A frequent question we receive from carpet cleaning customers is: How long will it take for my carpets to dry? There is no hard and fast answer to this question because there are many variables that must be taken into account.

First; the type of cleaning equipment plays a big role in how long carpets take to dry. Professional carpet cleaners usually employ powerful industrial blowers mounted in the work vehicle. These commercial vacuums are capable of removing large amounts of water (and soil) very efficiently.

Provided the operator utilizes quality cleaning tools and good cleaning technique, most residential and commercial carpets should only be damp to the touch following cleaning and extraction.

Second; the type of carpet or rug fiber plays a role in the amount of time required for carpet to dry. Synthetic carpet fibers generally dry more quickly than natural fibers. Natural fibers such as wool are very absorbent and can take a long time to dry if care is not taken. However, Olefin (Polypropylene) carpets tend to dry very quickly because of low moisture absorption, which allows moisture to wick to the surface and dry quickly. Nylon is also less absorbent than most natural fibers and drys quickly.

High humidity can slow dry time but air movement through the home is the biggest factor in speeding dry time. Weather permitting, turning on air conditioning or cracking windows to allow air to flow over carpets and though the home speeds the dry time considerably, especially compared to a home where there is no air flow at all. If fast dry time is critical for air movers or blowers can be placed to accelerate drying. In most cases, if proper procedures are followed, most carpeting can be dry within 2-4 hours.

If your concerned about the hot water extraction carpet cleaning method, in other words, you have a situation which requires immediate drying for areas that have frequent traffic, we also offer absorbent pad cleaning. This low moisture carpet cleaning system, is considered a maintanence cleaning that, while not deep cleaning improves the appearance in a timely manner; allowing short downtimes for your carpeted rooms and traffic areas. However, as said befor this should be considered an interim cleaning method and a more complete, deep cleaning, hot water extraction cleaning should be performed at least every three cleanings to remove deep down soils.
